Former Council Member's Husband Arrested For DUI
Bill Sloat of the DailyBellwether broke the story that Steve Aziz, husband of former Cincinnati Council member Leslie Ghiz, was arrested for DUI on November 23, 2011, the night before Thanksgiving. He allegedly crashed his vehicle on Linwood Ave. Sloat is reporting that since the incident happened while Leslie Ghiz was still in office, the City Prosecutor's office is seeking a special council to handle the case.
This will not help her in the least if she goes forward with running for County Judge next year, something she has to register for before the deadline next week.
I am very puzzled that I've not be able to find any mention of this arrest in the local mainstream media, especially with the special prosecutor angle to it. I did find the blog post, linked above, discussing Ghiz's possible run for judge which was posted after the incident. I would not expect a big story on this, but at least a story with the basic details, especially with Ghiz possibly running for another political office. She just lost an election last month, so I'm guessing the press might not want to pile on and since the CPD isn't likely to tip of the press on a favored Republican, this gets only coverage on the blogs.
Kudos to Bill Sloat for doing the mainstream media's job.

So now he can't drive. Wonder if they will think twice about their move to the suburbs, where the bus service is horrendous.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that her husband is still using a Canadian drivers license, despite having married Ghiz and owning a home in Cincinnati since 2007.
ReplyDeleteThe whole affair begs the question of why the local media has shielded Ghiz by not reporting this story. After the Enquirer threw Ghiz under the streetcar by un-endorsing her for council they have obviously decided to throw her a bone by giving her cover so she can run for Judge. How typical of the biased Enquirer.
